Hi Yusuf, great question. I'm in consulting, and I can say you don't need to be completely proficient in excel. Any knowledge of the tool is great, but:
a) you will learn a lot on the job, and people will always lend a hand if you aren't sure on how to do something & b) more often than not, the excel work you will be doing won't be overly complicated.
