Not sure I fully understand the question - could you provide more information? Generally speaking most roles in accounting and finance more generally will involve you coming across interest in one way or another, for example applying corporate interest restriction rules in a direct tax team. If this is a question from a religious point of view, it is worth noting EY is not a lender and so roles would not require you to offer or "deal in" interest, and of course no one at EY would expect you to do any work which would be in conflict with your religious beliefs. Diversity and inclusion play a huge part in the success of our teams and as a business and so we proactively work to accommodate any beliefs or backgrounds and would never make any one of our employees act against their beliefs.
Thank you for replying. And yes I was referring to ‘dealing with interest’ from a religious point of view as it’s forbidden in my religion to work with it. Therefore, I wanted to enquire which job roles I could apply to where I wouldn’t really come across interest. I was considering the personal tax centre apprenticeship programme or the business consulting (Remediation) role. Can you let me know if these roles have any kind of dealings with interest? Or if there are any other roles that don’t deal with any kind of interest at all. Thank you
Thank you for clarifying - as I mentioned in my initial answer I think it would be hard to say a role where it is impossible to see interest -as it entirely depends on the client so could occur whether the client is a corporation or an individual. That being said I have not worked in either the PTC or in consulting so can't comment for certain.
My advice however would be to find a role which you are most interested in doing, one which you think you would enjoy most, then discuss with your counsellor (the manager who will help you manage your career at EY) that for religious reasons you are unable to work with interest and they will find you a workload that works for you. We have employees from all different backgrounds and faiths and as a business EY supports them all to work in aware that works for them. Another point to note is that EY has a large range of networks, e.g. The EY Muslim Network, where colleagues come together to share their guidance and experience, and can be a sounding board for approaching issues like this.
