This is a difficult question to answer - mainly because there are so many people at EY who succeed for such different reasons. For me, attitude is the most important aspect in any job. If you have the correct attitude, it does not matter if you are struggling in other areas, you will still be able to succeed because colleagues will be more willing to help if you give back the effort they put in.
I work in audit and one thing I would say is that you don't have to be the number 1 auditor in the firm to be "great" at your job. Those who take notes, ask questions and put the effort in to develop tend to be those who progress the quickest.
