This work really depends on what team you are assigned and what stage of the audit the team you are assigned are on. For example my first client was a client that was in busy season (meaning my client just had their financial year end). This stage is known as the execution stage of the audit. This is where we test accounts and basically take steps to complete the audit. However, the work you would be doing especially the first year is just helping out your seniors with tasks. They will explain how to complete and they are always welcome to any questions. Personally in my first few weeks I was tasked with creating samples of financial transactions that we have to test apart of the audit. I would recommend getting used to excel and knowing your way around the basics of excel as you will be using excel throughout your entire EY journey.
