Hi Justine - a typical day for a tax graduate can entail a variety of different things. You may have calls with the client to provide your tax advice or you may be producing written client deliverables.

It also depends which sub-service line you are in - for example, in GCR you will spend a lot more time on compliance work whereas in ITTS you will be producing deliverables on written tax advice

You will also be working on a variety of different clients on a daily basis, which means the experience you get is great!

Hi Justine! I'm a tax business apprentice but a typical day as a tax graduate would be quite similar (just differences in when you're out for study leave towards your accountancy qualification)! Your specific work will depend on what team you're in, but for most a working day will generally include internal/team meetings, client calls (or in-person meetings where you pop out to visit clients), completing various project deliverables (and the odd team social after work)! :)

Do you have more information on what the role would entail within the Private Client Services sub-service line?

Ah! You came to the right place! I'm part of PCS :)

So PCS is heavily advisory-based (although you will get opportunities to do a fair bit of compliance work- i.e. comps and returns to help you understand the practicalities of things), but we produce a lot of reports using Powerpoint/word/excel. We generally advise on transactions/structuring options from both a corporate and personal tax perspective to minimise any tax liability. We look at a lot of law/legislation (and work closely with the Law and other tax teams). Really good team to start your career in (breadth of experience)!

Quite a client-facing role if you're someone that likes to find new opportunities to win work as well!

No problem, happy to help if you have any more questions! Do you know where you plan to be based?

Have you also had the opportunity to work within the other tax sub-service lines too, or just stayed within PCS?

I believe the London Bridge office, UKI

So I have to stay in PCS until I've finished my apprenticeship (although you can request to move if you're unhappy), I think once you become promoted to senior (L2) there will be options for you to take part in secondments (i.e. globally or just moving teams temporarily) :)
