I’m just wondering what is on offer at EY in terms of career progression and opportunities, and how the EY culture differs from elsewhere.
In terms of career progression, there is an element of you get out what you put in. If you push yourself and seek out opportunities for growth and learning, you'll be able to progress quickly. There are also a lot of opportunities for secondment, transferring service lines, moving geographically. I was fortunate enough to lead engagements in my third (part-qualified) year, was promoted to Assistant Manager a year after qualifying and the next promotion is imminent. It was hard work but enjoyable hard work.
On how EY is different to other companies - it's the classic answer that you'll hear, but it's the people. Everyone is very supportive, friendly, happy to help you learn and progress, and I've found I've made some really close friends over the last few years. There are loads of things you can get involved other than the 'day job' - I'm on the CSR committee in the office, we have regular socials, office events, sports... if you have an idea that you'd like to do then chances are you'll be able to! Part of the driver of this is that each year when you join you join with hundreds of people at a similar stage in their life & career.
