Hello. I've been in audit for 8 busy seasons now (interesting unit of measurement). To be honest the hours ask is more than the rest of the year as it's a very busy time for our service line, and hopefully that's not a surprise to you. However it's not as bad as its reputation. It's definitely manageable and maintaining a work-life balance is really important - the key to that is communicating in advance if you have commitments you'd like to keep. I volunteer on a Monday morning so my non-negotiable is that I'm leaving on time on Monday and most of the time start later on Tuesdays - this is never and issue and your teams can work around it.
Another side of this is that busy season is when you will learn the most and meeting the most people. So it's actually a good experience to help you develop as an auditor and proffesional.
Experiences also vary by office - some offices have less of a Jan-Mar busy season as they have more clients that don't have December year-ends. My personal 'busy season' is from around 20th Jan to 10th March, but then I have another busy client at the start of November, although this has changed throughout the years.
Sorry for the ramble - if you have more specific questions I'm happy to help
Thank you for the response, Elliott. This is super helpful!
