We review financial statements, and have client meetings. We test and roll forward data.
We examine company accounts and financial control systems
What softwares do you use? I have some experience with Caseware but I know different firms use different accounting softwares
We identify if and where processes are not working as they should and advise on changes to be made
So EY has their own software known as EYCanvas which we use to store our data and test. DIfferrent clients have different accounting softwares, say one of my previous client was using Xero
How are you taught/introduced to assurance in your first few months as an assurance apprentice?
We have a 2-day induction, one is a basic introduction to EY. And the other is introduction to your department.
We have to complete a number of compulsory web based learnings, which are kind of like training courses and are really helpful. You will be given sufficient time to complete those
And we also have a number of training sessions organised both virtually and face to face, where you can also interact with your peer groups i.e other apprentices or even grads
The teams that we work with provide us with loads of support and guide us through the tasks that we have to do
Thank you!
How much numerical ability do you need for assurance?
I'd say GCSE level, some calculations are pretty basic. Like percentages, ratios and all. We mostly use excel formulae.
One of the things I would've learnt beforehand if I knew would've been excel formulae
Specially Vlookup is a life saver
