I have a background in chemistry and computing and although I am up to date with the latest technology schemes used in the industry, I am unsure on how to prepare for the position.
Hi Kavya, we don't require you to do any prep prior to joining us, you will learn everything you need to know on the job, so the best thing to do would be to relax before your new role :)
Hi Kavya! I'm a first year technology risk consultant and the job is centred around identifying the IT risks clients face and testing the controls they have in place to mitigate these risks. Generally this is lots of working with your team to document evidence about their IT processes and lots of client interaction & meetings
What would you say is the difficulty of some of the material that we learn during the course? Is it all designed for undergraduate learning?
In terms of prep we don't assume you have any knowledge at all about this sort of thing when you start and it will all be taught to you! We do use excel every day though so I would have found it useful to have some excel skills before I started :)
The general skills & methods we use in the role aren't too difficult to learn and you will have lots of support from the team in picking up the role!
Ah thank you that helps and answers my other question too! I look forward to it!
Hi Ellie, have you done any work on AI or Robotic Process Automation yet? :)
Hi, I'm also doing the tech risk summer internship! How often do the tech risk consultants go to the client offices?
In terms of your graduate role in this position, what are some tasks that you do on a daily basis? Can you give me an example of a project in this department?
Hi Maya, I haven't done any work on those yet! My first year has been all about learning the basics of IT audit, once the basics are learnt there's lots of scope to specialise as you move forward with your career
We are starting to go back to client site now! It does depend on what the client wants in terms of remote/in person working however I have been visiting client site on a weekly basis recently.
Okay thank you!
Thank you!
Kavya - tasks I do on a day to day basis would be testing a clients IT controls. For example, one form of testing we do is leaver testing: when an employee leaves the business their IT access needs to be removed. We will take a sample of leavers from the company and check that this has been done. In particular we will be interested in making sure privileged access is removed, all access is removed in a timely manner and that leavers dont log in after their leave date. We test all sorts of aspects of a clients IT landscape and then all of this comes together to form a conclusion on whether they have effective controls or not!
Thats really interesting thank you! I'm looking forward to the role!
May I connect with you on LinkedIn, I would love to know more about the ongoing projects from other grads as well!
Feel free to! :)
Thank you!
