What application advice would you give for students coming from a non-Ivy University?

Hi! I'm currently pursuing my Masters in Food Business Management and am interested in applying for the Business Consulting 2019 Graduate Scheme! Im worried about the 1st stage of the application process as I don't come from an Ivy university (Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, UCL, etc) - does coming from an Ivy league university give you a better chance of getting through the 1st stage of the application process? and what advice would you give to students (from non-ivy universities) whose interested in applying for consulting ?

Hi Sarah - don't worry about that EY don't actually look at what university you came from! They like to base the process on how you are in the interview and assessment centre.

And my advice would be to just apply and research the company beforehand and make sure you have thought about why you want to apply in order to convey this in the interview

Ah okay, thats good to know!. I was just a bit worried because I've been speaking to a couple of working professionals - from the Big4 and they've told me that I would probably struggle in the application process as I'm not from an Ivy university!

But that sounds fantastic! Will definitely apply! Thank you Lydia!

Also, would it also give an applicant a better advantage if they have prior consulting internship experience?

Yes absolutely not EY take you on face value, don't look at unis etc and yes should definitely apply :)

Experience is always good to have just in order to show your skills. But I for example never had previous consulting experience, but used other experiences I had to demonstrate skills etc

Alright thats good to know. I believe I've got some work experience that can demonstrate transferable skills in the consulting sector! :)

Also what made you pick EY? I'm sure you applied to other firms too right? How did EY stand out to other companies?

Yes I did - I thought about a lot of different companies but everyone I met from EY where so nice and friendly. The culture and people just seemed different
