Hello, I am Ruby I just graduated in May 2022, 1st class BEng ee engineering. I have come to realised that I am very interested in consulting roles. There are two roles that I came across that grabbed my attention, which is the Graduate R&D advisor and Tech Risk Graduate program. I love EY as a company and would like to have the opportunity for you guys. Any advice on landing the role or info about the interviews would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I saw that there are many applications for the R&D role? how do I stand out?
Hi Ruby, I'm a graduate on the Tech Risk program so can offer some insight there! Is there anything in particular you'd like to know? For the R&D program you'd be best looking at this page https://www.ey.com/en_uk/careers/students/application-process
No prior experience is required for our programmes, so a general willingness to get involve and proactiveness is a good start.
Hi Lauren thanks for the response
It mentioned on LinkedIn that it is open to flexible working? what does that mean?
There are over 200 applicants for the role. May I know how do I stand out and nail the interviews? thanks
There's a lot of flexibility in when/where you can work - at the moment you can still work from home whenever you want. I've also found that there's a culture of working around any home committments
Have you already started the application process can I ask?
I have started my application but have not submitted it yet
Oh i see flexible working sounds great. Do you happen to know when will the starting date be for the R&D role
And also other than the R&D role and within the graduates programs, what would you suggest is best fitted sub-service line in consulting for an engineering background student. Thanks
Understandable! I would recommend being well prepared for your interview by learning about EY, the industry, and the specific role you are going for. Think about why the role suits you and why EY should hire you. Play to your strengths and really show your interviewer why you would be a good fit for the organisation. I also recommend being yourself and being relaxed if you can, interviews can be stressful but the interviewer is really just trying to see if you have the right personality and attitude to do well here.
Great advices about the interview! How about before the interview where they pick my application for the first interview. What would make my application stand out if all of us have the required skills?
Hi Ruby, is the R&D role a graduate role? If so start date will depend on what intake you applied for. April 2023 intake starts on 31st March this year, September 2023 intake starts on usually the first Thursday of September
Great. Would like to join in April
Think about the experience you have, and then try to match it with the skills that are needed for the role and make this clear in your application. There's lots of guidance online about how to do this well
Give concrete examples of what you did, and what the outcome was.
I see. Thanks for the info. Do you know if there any other Graduate roles available for April intake other than the R&D role?
For this April the roles are currently closed, you'd need to look at those starting in September.
