This is a hard question because I think everyday is different, it really just depends what you are working on at the time and who with. It can also depend where your working. For example, a day at client site could be a lot more different to a day working in the office. Typically though, I spend my days working through my work allocation with constant communication with my team for questions, queries or advice. My day will also be split up with LOTS of coffee breaks and team catch-ups that help me keep on top of my schedule. As I say, each day is different and depending on what I have to do I may be working late but usually I am able to keep to my core hours (9;00-5;30) as well as including network events and Lunch and Learn internal events which help break up the day.
So as a Tax Apprentice.
My day generally looks similar everyday, other than the days I go to courses or I use to study, but as for the actual work days, it is all fairly similar.
If I come into the office, I would sit at a desk with hopefully my team members around me, I would check my emails to make sure there is not any e-learning, or any important changes/events that I might need to know about. I would then log onto my tax software and do some work.
As an apprentice the work you do gets progressively harder as you learn, in personal tax you would start off generating letters to clients, sending off tax return packs, then you would fill out some of the easiest tax returns and slowly get used to the process. You would be working directly with a senior executive as a buddy and they would make sure you always get help and you always have work to do.
There are lots of coffee breaks, you get to eat your lunch with your team as well which is super cool, and there is of course a lot of banter during!
Hi Jaya, I agree with Georgia above it's difficult to explain a typical day as every single day is different which is what I love about the firm/job. I usually log on at 8.30am/9am and start with some catch up calls with my team to understand what needs to be completed throughout the day. Once these calls are finished I prioritise the work i have to ensure i meet my deadlines and then get started with this. If i have any questions or queries I message my team or jump on a call with them to talk through it. Further on in my apprenticeship i know regularly join calls with the client and sometimes have the opportunity to lead these. I usually finish around 5pm on most days. Of course lots of coffee breaks during the day!
