Hi Amanda, thanks for asking - I'd say the highs include the fact that you will know literally everything about the business you will be auditing. As you will be auditing accounts from cash to goodwill impairment, to auditing IT systems of a company - so you will probably know more about the accounting of the company than the accountants themselves!
The lows are that a lot of people will probably tell you are the hours worked, however if you're a quick worker, and have good organizational skills, the latest you'll probably work will be 7 (and this is senior level)
Hope this answers your question - feel free to ask any more!
Just to add to this. The highs are the exposure you have to some of the biggest clients in the UK if not the world. The level of exposure you receive with this is fantastic and you really will be experience by the time you complete your qualification.
Thank you for your responses, Abdullah and Harry! Would you say auditing is something you went into knowing full well it was what you wanted to do, or was it something you one day found yourself in (and enjoying)?
Audit is something I went into because it was something that required the same skills that I did at university and how I was as an individual. I wouldn't say I particularly left university with the intention of doing audit, but it is certainly something that I enjoy doing now
I also didn't imagine myself doing audit, but it's one of those things you learn to like - if you have an open mindset, are willing to learn as much as possible and go the extra mile, not only will you be great at your job, but you'll learn to like it as well
That's very interesting, I guess because auditing is not as well-known as other finance and accounting areas, it becomes an area where you one day find yourself in and enjoy haha. How long have you both been in auditing?
So for me, I've been 3 and a half years now! But it's definitely something I learned to like, at first I wasn't sure it was for me, but once I put my mind to it, learned a lot more etc. I found it a lot more enjoyable!
I have been in audit for 1 and a half years now. I've covered some companies that are household names and I have really enjoyed the exposure to complex and interesting accounting areas.
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions today! I'm looking forward to pursuing a career in auditing and based on your responses, it's very comforting to see that it is an enjoyable field!
You're welcome, let me know if you have any further questions
