Hi Theodore, the schedule for your exams will depend upon which governing body you are enrolled. This could be ICAEW or ICAS. EY fully support you during the exam process with time off to attend college and the opportunity to retake on a case by case basis.
For ICAS sorry for not specifying
I am currently doing the ICAS qualification, from my experience you do the exams in blocks over a 3 year period. You start with your first block of college for the Test of Competence exams in the first few weeks in the business
For the first year of my graduate scheme what months are these blocks usually in?
And in the case of not passing an exam what is the protocol?
Normally in October and November for the first block of exams and then in the summer for your second block.
If you do not pass you are allowed to retake.
May I know how many retakes are allowed per paper?
Unfortunately I do not have personal experience with this however I believe multiple retakes are decided on a case by case basis.
Is there any preparation that you would recommend for these exams before the September start date?
EY assumes everyone starts with no prior knowledge of accounting and as such provides all tutoring required to pass the exams. I asked the same question when I joined and was given the helpful advice of looking into the basics of accounting such as debits and credits, however this is all covered at college.
I'd like to ask an additional question here, how many opportunities are available to retake an ICAEW qualification exam
