Hello, I am just wondering to start with what the typical skill set for an aspiring candidate in technology would be?

This is in relation to technical accounting more broadly as well as other specific business functions. Thanks very much.

    The pure accounting knowledge is not essential to perform the majority of work in Technology Risk, however, you will be studying towards completing the Certificate Level (ACA Qualification) - this should provide you with some accounting skills.

    That said, if you feel like you'd like to study prior to your start date, you can - but on the other hand, the firm will provide you with all necessary resources and support to complete those exams alongside your peers

    So I wouldn't say a typical skill set is necessarily heavily related to technology if you know what I mean :)

    Yeah that's really helpful thanks very much. On the other hand then, is a focus on emerging trends in technology critical to success? Considering how quickly technology evolves are there any training and development opportunities to help new starters?

    We always look to improve and innovate our own EY methodology to make sure we can deliver the best to the clients, using the newest solutions available - so you;ll see that we constantly update our methods to make sure we are staying up to date with no only the technology, but also adapting to any regulations that are introduced, as this is one of the important factors too

    Really helpful thanks very much. Finally, I was wondering as I'm due to complete my PhD in Accountancy in just under 2 years and would like to know if there are opportunities for new graduate entrants to develop new ideas in technology or if there is a separate business function exclusively focused on research. Thanks again.

We don't have specific research teams for graduates within the business to develop new technologies, but on all of our graduate programmes we're constantly looking at new technologies to support our systems and client engagements. You can always look at our opportunities within Experienced Hire too to see if there are any specific technology roles you'd be interested in applying to.
