Hi there, thanks very much for your question.

I studied Accountancy at University, so was interested in a career in an Accountancy firm (though please note you don't need a finance/accountancy related degree to apply for a role at EY). The tax department also offered the ACA qualification as part of the graduate programme (chartered accountancy) as well as the possibility of the CTA qualification after completing ACA (chartered tax)- I was looking for a graduate role that would give me the opportunity for further qualifications so this suited me well.

I chose tax as I am interested in numbers, and the tax environment is continually changing so there are always new things to learn. I had also completed some work experience in audit and decided that is wasn't for me. I had also completed a module in Taxation while at University and I enjoyed it.

I went to some careers events while in my second year at University, where I met some members of the EY tax team in the Newcastle office - they were very friendly and accommodating to all of my questions on careers and tax, so I applied for the graduate role in the office and was successful in my application.

    I hope this helps!
