How much of the first year is office based - or do you also go out and visit clients directly

This depends on your service line/ office! In CMDA in Newcastle we spend 40-60% of your time in the office (but some choose to work in the office more!) , but we rarely visit clients in this service line and complete the work virtually. However, this is project dependant.

I live far away from the Manchester office and the flexible working is perfect. When not on internal or external courses i am usually in the office twice a week. I have had a few client meetings mostly in areas around the office or over teams it varies a lot.

We work on a hybrid model now, so it is a mix of being in the office and at home. The office time is a mix for me between the EY office and the client site.

I'd say this very much depends on your service line - for instance, I work in private tax, and spend most of my time in the first year working in the office (2 days actually in the office, 3 days remotely) and occasionally I have to go to college for a few days - a week.

Based on the answers - How did you get to know and meet other apprentices if you aren't all in the office at the same time or do people have to work the same days in the office

It usually depends on the teams you are in. In audit, we are trying to spend more time on client sites but the standard is 2/3 days in office/client site and the rest at home. Of course as deadlines come up and if the client is far, you may spend some more time at the office or client site

We are in college/uni face to face, so this is largely where I met others from my year group and created amazing friends for life.

Hi Malachy! EY has many opportunities to build relationships such as socials within the office and Coffee With a Colleague - an initiative connecting you to different people to build your interfirm network.

Every cohort has a regular meeting to catch up, we have one every month. So that is one way and then you will work with other apprentices and see them in offices. On top of that there are also committees and groups to join. I play football with other apprentices every other week!

The amount of time spent in the office / working from home or on client sites is specific to the service line and office. As a London Digital apprentice in Assurance (Audit) my team meets once a week in person, the rest of the week it's my choice if I work from home or attend the office. Working in Audit you have lots of opportunities to attend client sites if you want to, it’s a case of speaking to your line manager and asking them for those oppertunities – which they will always encourage!
