In some sense, it has already changed how we do things. Offering new ways to compile the information we need and speed up processes - something that is very important as we approach important deadlines (such as the 23/24 UK tax return deadline coming up on the 31st of Jan 2025)
In future, it is hard to know long-term because it is a fast-moving space. In the short-term I think we will increasingly be able to "automate the boring stuff" at more complex tasks - essentially allowing a higher proportion of your work to be spent on more interesting tasks!
Thanks for your answer! What do you find to be the most interesting tasks in tax?
The weird stuff! You often find with tax there are a lot of strange rules put in place for historical and political reasons.
Dealing with asset disposals/ capital gains tax is the most interesting to me for precisely this reason! For instance, did you know there's capital gains anti-avoidance legislation nicknamed "The Beatles clause"?
Never heard of that before, but just had a quick look at Google and it sounds interesting. I think I can see why the weird stuff is the most interesting. Thanks for sharing this!
