Hi Anna Maria - We would like our applicants to be working towards an honours degree in a numbers-based subject like Maths, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Economics, Computer Science or Technology

I see. May I ask if it involves any numerical skills or programming languages that could be required?

Since our field of work involves a lot of maths, numerical skills will be of great use. You don't need to know any programming. I personally learned how to code after I joined :)

I have a degree in Physics and then an MSc in Biomedical engineering and in a few months I'm submitting my PhD thesis in Biomedical Engineering too. In your opinion and from your experience so far, would that be a good background for the actuarial field?

  • Anonymous

There isn't a specific background that is better than another. We have a lot of people in the team that studied engineering, chemistry. So we all bring different things to the table. I think it's mostly the soft skills that you bring, the curiosity and the eagerness to learn

And may I ask what are the career prospects within the company for someone in this field?

Within EY as you gain more experience and take on more responsibility, you can promote within the teamSo I've worked my way up from graduate to senior consultant to manager
