My top advice for someone starting out is to embrace the first year as a time to explore.
Don’t hesitate to take on different opportunities, attend social events, and talk to people from various teams. These interactions will help you build your personal brand and showcase your strengths. Even if you’re more introverted, there’s always a way to find your niche and build connections that feel authentic to you. The key is to stay curious, be open to learning, and not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.
Hi Harry, you are not expected to have any technical knowledge. I think just having a keen friendly attitude will take you a long way, but here are some practical tips: Take notes when you are in a team meeting, if you're shadowing a team on a specific project, maybe read around the client company and make an effort to learn as much as possible. Offer to do small tasks that don't require experience, like consolidating team notes after a client call, etc. And lastly, look out for any opportunities to get involved in the business - join the social committee, volunteer for things, if someone mentions on a team catch-up there's something to get involved in then reach out to them, if you are ever free then highlight your availability.
Thank you for your time and contributions Lucky and Daevasyaa, this is really helpful and insightful!
