Yasam A. asked a question to Ross W.
Hi Yasam,
Great question! This is something which came up in one of my virtual interviews before joining EY, and as someone who doesn’t drive it was weighing heavily on my mind!
In short - yes, there is some local travel involved. For instance, when working on a client you‘ll likely visit their site. I went once a week during the post-year end period, and I know a few of my colleagues spend a similar amount of time with their clients. Similarly, when it comes to stock counts, you’ll have to travel to those sites. EY try to make sure that you don’t have too far to travel - I think my longest journey was about an hour by train - and they reimburse travel expenses if you travel further than you normally would to your local office.
Another thing that is worth mentioning is that we travelled to London on our first day in the role for a student induction launch event. It was quite a short trip, but I believe we are going back for a few days in July as part of our second year training course.
Overall, there normally won’t be too much travel in your day-to-day role. There are secondment opportunities where, after you’ve completed your programme, you can apply to second to another office for a fixed term - but I am personally too early in my career to have any experience of this!
