Hi Bronte, this will differ from service line to service line. I am currently doing CFAB as part of the tech risk team. We initially has two weeks at college for our accounting and assurance exams. The other four exams are self study however, you do get study leave.
Hey, thank you for your question!
CFAB teaching is lectures based for Assurance and Accounting, but for the rest of the courses are done via self learning.
Hey Sidd & Mimo, thank you for letting me know. Were the two modules with teaching (audi and assurance) straight away when you joined and before you started in your team? Also how much official study leave do you get per exam?
Hey, we had joined the team however we did not start on any client work. We had the initial on-boarding for two weeks then had college for 2 weeks. For each exam you should officially get 4 days.
Thank you! Are the audit and assurance the 'hardest' exams, hence why they are taught in lecture format? Also can you then study the other four modules in an order of your choice?
Sidd you mention two weeks of onboarding - what did that entail?
And in terms of completing the CFAB is this within one year?
Hey Bronte - are you joining the tech risk team? As on-boarding differs in different teams
Hey Sidd, no I will actually be joining the Corporate Finance Team, so maybe it will be different. Will the CFAB be completed in a year and are the assurance and audit exams soon after the two weeks at college or is it flexible when you take the six exams?
Accounting is generally one of the hardest exam and assurance one of the easier ones however it does differ depending on your strengths. You will take the first two exams two weeks after college - however this may differ for you. EY generally does tell you when you have to take the exams and in which order too.
Okay thank you that is super useful. How long usually should it take to have completed the CFAB qualification?
It is normally done within one year.
Great thank you - and one last question, do you also get study leave for the assurance and accounting exams or just the lecture time?
Just the two weeks at college.
Hi Bronte, Sidd, Mimo. I am joining the tech risk (data analytics) department. Do you happen to know of anyone who did the CISA and if there are any opportunities to do so? Do you know what softwares/programming languages are often utilised (so that I can get started on polishing my skills)?
Thank you for your help Sidd.
Hi Sum, you can do the CISA i believe a few years into working at EY - not straight away. I am not 100% sure anout exactly what analytics skills you will need however, you will be taught on the job so don't worry!
That's good to know, thanks Sidd!
One last question please, where is the college based? Is it in central London?
It will be yes - I am from Birmingham so can't tell you exactly where it will be sorry!
No problem.
