As a new joiner, there will be close to zero expectation for you have to have any technical knowledge. I would say the most important thing is to be willing to learn new things. But in terms of preparation for a career in tax and financial services more broadly, two things that would be helpful are to follow economic news stories and learn some basic excel skills. A lot of the tasks that we do involve using excel and any shortcuts or skills you have can help set you apart particularly in the beginning
Yes, I did an excel course in my first few months on the job, and I wish I did it before I started! Helpful in all teams, wherever you join in tax I'd say.
