Apprenticeship - What's the difference between joining as a graduate and an apprentice?

How long before we are doing the same work as graduates? Have you personally looked into other training either during or after your apprenticeship to cover for a lack of degree?

Hey Joseph, with my apprenticeship, I get a Level 7 qualification equivalent to a masters degree, and as its 4.5 years long, once I'm finsihed I dont think I will want to do anything for a while! :D

Apprentices tend to start work a lot earlier than graduates, as they typically have a long (normally 3-month) study block when they start, whereas your study periods will tend to be a bit later on, but this will depend on your schedule :)

For assurance under the ICAEW, the only difference I have seen really is that for your apprenticeship you need to do a project report and that you sit 2 exams at at time whislt grads would sit 3 at a time. As for other training, apprenticeship gives you a level 7 degree & you're a chartered accountant.

Haha, I definitely understand that. I know the ACA qualification in itself is well respected and very hard work to achieve. Nevertheless, I know a lot of people who have definitely felt that not having a degree (while not hindering internal promotions) might have limited them in job opportunities outside of the company, I was wondering if there have been people that might have continued on to a degree after their apprenticeship (part time or through distance learning) and used their ACA qualification as credit for prior learning

I'm not aware of anyone that has done (but thats because I speak to apprentices in the same position as me mostly!). I think the ACA is one of the main chartered accountancy quals so is very widely recognised and wouldn't think it would hinder you for job opportunities :D
